Update on, well, Me.

Hello everyone. Jenny here.

Jenny here actually back from Australia, and Las Vegas. Which I will comment was amazing, Australia, Las Vegas was just hot, and more hot. Due to such leave from home.

My accomplishments are a bit limited. Buuut, I figured our blog was a bit empty, and I would challenge others with the task of filling everyone else in with anything they have accomplished.

  I was given the oppurtunity to read the book, and it was quite interesting, and the ending lessons learned were good, though I wont say much more, wouldnt want to ruin it for everyone else. Luckily though, didnt take long, comparitave to the length of HP7, which I will say was absolutely amazing to the utmost of all amazing. Finished Saturday night I can proudly relay.

  My adventures at numerous book stores for other books, aka english list, led me to find a book on the civil war. I have only skimmed the chapters and pages, but it gives a good outlook on most of the things that occured, and will most likely be a rather nifty resource for the Super Quiz. If anyone wishes, feel free to ask, and Ill lend you it for your own reading pleasure.

My list ends here, but I will certainly expand on it if such need be the case. I hope everyone's summers are going absolutely amazing, mine certainly has yet to be a bore, and I cant wait to see you all in 2ish weeks. Wow, time sure did fly.

HEY ALL!!!

Hey Everyone!

I'm totally excited to be working with you all this coming year. And - I have my own classroom (P11) that you can drop by at any time. I'll have a 1st period prep so if any of you don't have a 1st period you're more than welcome to come by to study. I was glad to see Ms. Avery's post on what to expect re: subject matter. I noticed much of it centers around the Civil War. Since I'll teaching both US History and Economics - hopefully I can be of assistance in those areas.

Now - other business:
I'm sure you must all be busy - but no posts?
Is anyone out there?..........I know it's summer and you're all probably vacationing, working, going to the movies, listening to music, cruising the internet, & just generally hangin' out..... BUT - we need to start training -- even just a little bit. Our competition has already started gearing up -- AND all the EDHS sports team athletes do summer conditioning - thus, it's only logical that we use these proven tools for success. Just check in w/us all & post on what you have (or haven't) done. [Besides, you should all be done w/Harry Potter #7 by now - I was done 10:30 Sat night - ha!]

So my question to you all is this:
Are we in this to WIN & have FUN (with capital letters)? or are we in this to win & have fun (with small letters)?
I say - Let's WIN & have FUN! 60,000 points - All the Way Baby!

I know you're all going to be awesome! So let's get crackin' & make this year's Decathalon ROCK!

Summer update....

Hey team, are you all working so hard you have no time to check out the blog? I just got the following message from the DemiDec site.

We have just published our first resource of the summer. Dean Webb, authorof
the very popular "For the Rest of Us" series, has written a shortsupplement
on this year's novel, entitled The Red Badge of Courage for theRest of Y'all. This
is now available at our web site, www.demidisc.com.

It looks like the DemiDec site is still under construction, but keep checking, for more news. We'll review the supplement when we get back in August. Has anyone finished reading Red Badge of Courage yet? Let us know what you think about it....

I hope all of you are having a great summer AND taking the time to learn something new. For my part, I'm taking an online course on Web 2.0 and, as you can see, I've learned how to create a blog. It is my hope that this blog will be a forum for us to share ideas as we learn all about the Civil War, from causes to reconstruction.



The following information is from the National AC site:

SUPER QUIZ: The Super Quiz™ topic will be The Civil War. The Super Quiz Resource Guide will include readings on such topics as the causes of the war, critical battles and campaigns, the role of slavery, the Emancipation Proclamation, Lincoln’s
leadership, and Reconstruction.
LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE: The language and literature curriculum will include critical reading, one novel, and six shorter works. The featured novel will be The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane.
ART: The art curriculum topic will be nineteenth-century American art, and the curriculum will include the study of eighteen selected artworks.
MUSIC: The music curriculum will focus on the music of the Civil War era. The curriculum will include a companion CD, featuring fourteen listening selections.
SCIENCE: The science curriculum will focus on the transmission, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases.
The Science Resource Guide will include a case study on disease and the Civil War.
ECONOMICS: The economics curriculum will focus on fundamentals of economics, including general topics in macro- and microeconomics and international trade and
global economic development. The economics curriculum will also include a thematic section focused on slavery and the economics of the U.S. Civil War.
MATH: The math curriculum will cover topics in the fields of general math, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and differential calculus.
